How to Prepare for Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning
A little preparation before the technician arrives means more time spent cleaning and less time spent moving boxes. None of it needs to be complicated, and quite a lot of the list is things you do not need to do at all.

Quick answer
Clear small items and cords from floors and furniture, secure pets, share photos or notes on known stains and any products you have already used, and confirm parking or building access ahead of time. Leave heavy furniture, deep vacuuming and moving fragile items to us unless you have already discussed it.

What to tell us before we arrive
- Point out every spot you already know about, even old or faded ones — a spot that has been treated before may need a different approach than a fresh one.
- Tell us exactly what products you have already used on a stain, including anything from a hardware store or an online recipe. Some home treatments set a stain or react with cleaning solutions, so this genuinely changes how we approach it.
- Photos help. If you have a picture of a stain when it first happened, or a label from something spilled, share it — it can tell us more than a description after the spot has dried.
- Mention pets, especially any accidents, and any areas that smell different from the rest of the room even if you cannot see a visible spot.
- Flag anything unusual about the fiber or fabric if you know it — wool carpet, a vintage rug, a velvet sofa, a leather-and-fabric combination piece — so we can bring the right approach.

Room-by-room: what to move yourself
You do not need to empty a room. A short walk-through with the small, breakable and personal items is usually enough.
- Toys, shoes, books, remotes, cords, pet bowls and anything loose sitting directly on the floor.
- Small tables, lamps, plants and decorative items sitting on furniture that will be cleaned or moved.
- Fragile or sentimental items anywhere near the work area — vases, framed photos, electronics — even if they are not directly in the way.
- Curtains or drapes that hang low enough to drag on the floor, if you can tie or pin them back.
- Anything you specifically do not want moved by someone else, since we would rather you handle those pieces yourself.

What we handle, so you do not have to
A lot of customers over-prepare out of politeness, and it is not necessary. Here is what genuinely does not need to be done before we arrive.
- Heavy furniture — sofas, beds, dressers, pianos, china cabinets. Moving heavy furniture alone risks injury and floor damage, and we will tell you upfront which pieces we can and cannot move.
- Deep vacuuming the whole house. Ask us whether a pre-vacuum is included in your service — many jobs include one, and duplicating it beforehand is not necessary.
- Pre-treating stains yourself right before we arrive. If you have not already treated a spot, it is usually better to leave it for us rather than try something new the morning of the appointment.
- Scrubbing or spot-cleaning upholstery cushions in advance. Let us assess the fabric first.

Pets and children on the day
Keep pets in a separate room, crate or outdoor area while we work, and ideally until surfaces have dried. Cleaning equipment, hoses and open doors are not a good combination with a curious or anxious pet, and freshly cleaned carpet is easier to keep clean if paws stay off it while damp.
Keep children clear of the immediate work area for the same reasons — hoses underfoot, wet floors and equipment in motion are simply not compatible with kids running through a room. A separate room, a screen, or time outside works well for most families.

Apartments, HOAs and commercial properties
Los Angeles has a wide mix of properties, and access is often the part people forget to plan for.
- Apartments and condos — check whether your building requires advance notice for vendors, has an elevator reservation system, or restricts service hours, and let us know your unit's parking situation.
- HOA communities — some communities require a gate code, visitor parking permit or advance registration for service vehicles. A quick call to your HOA office before the appointment avoids delays at the gate.
- Commercial properties and offices — confirm after-hours or weekend access, freight elevator use, and whether the space needs to be fully cleared of employees during the work. This is also the time to mention any carpet warranty requirements tied to your cleaning method.
- In every case, a reserved or confirmed parking spot near the entrance saves setup time, since hoses have to run from the van to the work area.

Furniture surfaces and drying plans
Clear tabletops, countertops near upholstered seating, and any surfaces where cleaning solution or hoses might pass by. It is a small step that avoids an accidental knock during setup.
Think ahead about drying too. Since carpet and upholstery need airflow to dry at a reasonable pace, plan to keep a window cracked or a fan available afterward, and decide in advance where pets and foot traffic will go while things dry. Our guide on drying times has more detail on what a realistic timeline looks like for your specific carpet.
Ready to book?
Preparation does not need to be perfect — a short walk-through and a few honest notes about what has happened in the space go a long way. If you are not sure what applies to your home, apartment or office, tell us about the space when you request a quote and we will walk you through exactly what to expect on the day, including realistic timing and what we need clear before we arrive.

Common questions
Do I need to vacuum before the technician arrives?
Usually not. Many jobs include a pre-vacuum as part of the service. Ask when you book so you know whether it is included and can skip duplicating the work.
Should I move my own furniture to save time?
Move only small, light items you are comfortable lifting. Leave heavy or fragile furniture to us — we will tell you upfront which pieces we can safely move and which we cannot.
What if I already tried to clean a stain myself?
Tell us exactly what you used, even if it did not work. Some home treatments change how a stain responds to professional cleaning, and knowing in advance helps us choose the right approach.
Do pets need to be out of the house entirely?
Not necessarily out of the house, but out of the work area — a separate room, crate or yard works well, both for their safety around equipment and to keep them off damp carpet afterward.
Which areas do you serve?
We are a family-owned company based in Beverly Hills, serving Los Angeles County including Malibu, Topanga and the South Bay, plus approved Orange County communities.
