Encapsulation is a low-moisture method built for commercial carpet that has to be back in service quickly. A polymer solution is worked into the pile, crystallizes around soil, and is vacuumed away.
It is a maintenance method, usually combined with periodic hot-water extraction rather than replacing it.

Honest limitations
